Christopher Waller AW11 // Women // Added 2011/03/17 at 10:17
The collection titled Her Complexity’s and Simplicity’s set Christopher Waller apart from a strong list of UK designers enamoured with the straightforward yet chic mood currently running through fashions veins. “I was focusing on the clothes being practical and wearable. These pieces encapsulate the women that they were designed for.
“This season I was concentrating on translating feeling, specifically the combination of tireless determination and the reckless abandon that goes with it. It was the inter reliance of these two feelings that I wanted to instil in the collection. It’s not an obvious reference, but thoughts and feelings are both highly relevant to me. Sometimes it’s more about a feeling, not just an image or a fabric. They come afterwards. Thinking this way helps me to push myself creatively. I’m learning all the time.
When faced with times of austerity our simplified dreams are an escape from the complexities of this reality. An endless ideal that we all dream but never live. I really wanted the first AW season to evolve concentrating on this relationship through the use of a simplified palette and block panelling.”
