collection "China, many meanings" // Jewels // Added 2010/04/05 at 20:20
This collection plays with the collective imaginary that sorrounds the word “China”. Forced by the disparate discourses that we listened, read, and finally shape our beliefs.
Some pieces are simple compositions with the icons: plane, pig, butterfly, military gun or high heels, that can evoke a duality of meaning ( ex: for some persons a plane represents the idea of pleasure or adventure, but for other people the risk of death or a tool of terrorism; A pig: in countries like Argentina is related with money or save but in Germany or Austria means luck and is given to friends and family in new years eve)
Other pieces have a more complex compositions from the arrangement and repetition of each icon (like the military guns cross) that give us a new reading, generating new icons (cross ) from the primary one ( military gun).
This spreads even more possibilities of connotation ( ex: domain trough faith, or faith in the power of submission trough force or power)
The process of composition can evoke connotations as complex as absurd,
In the same way that the discourses sourrounding the word “China” does.
