Ignacio Mejía presents an unruly & urban wardrobe
led by a revolutionary mind which can be summed up in 3 acts :
-Reinvention of the t-shirt
-Clothing care labels turned into books
-Search of alternative ways of producing
DESIGN:
Cha nging the traditional construction process,
Ignacio Mejía gives the t-shirt a completely new
shape based on an audacious folding method. The result, "trompe l'oeil" style t-shirts where
sleeves and collar are inverted and which show off
an elegant & avant-gardist silhouette. This formula,
which can be applied to dresses, sweat-shirts etc.,
will remain the signature of the brand throughout
the collections.
CLOTHING CARE LABEL & LITERATURE:
Ignacio Mejía adds a new concept to its fashion
design work by turning its clothing care label into
a little book made in collaboration with the
mexican publisher Gato Negro. The book can remain
sewed on or can be removed with scissors. Each
collection gives you the opportunity to discover,
next to clothing care instructions, some sentences, verses, or thoughts of a different author. In the summer 2010 issue, you can read in French & Spanish a selection of Poeminimos by the mexican writer Efrain Huerta.
ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF PRODUCING:
Ignacio Mejía's clothes are manufactured with high quality organic cotton by the women of the cooperative Crisalida, based in Mexico city. In this sewing cooperative, the women fix their own wages and they also decide the workshop's working conditions.
