Let us wear skirts // Things // Added 2008/06/20 at 17:00

40 years after Yves Saint Laurent’s pantsuits, men now claim their right to wear an item that has always been associated with women: skirts!

Since the dawn of time, men have always worn skirts: from the Pharaoh’s loincloth in     Egypt to the Polynesian pareo, from the Oriental jellaba to the Scottish kilt. Only Western countries seem to resist this trend!

Two associations, the "HeJs" (French acronym for "Hommes en Jupe", i.e. Men in Skirts) and "Men in Skirts" claim their right to difference and campaign actively to be able to express their taste without enduring mockery.

True statements have come from more confidential brands such as Amok in Switzerland, giving men the opportunity to be both original and trendy.

If it remains hard to find men’s skirts in stores, mentalities also have a hard time changing, many men complaining that they are often considered as “deviant”. For some of them, it has almost led to a divorce: "I talked about it with my wife. It got pretty bad. We almost had a divorce! "

Will this lead to another fashion revolution, after the one led by Yves Saint Laurent in 1960?

You’ll get an answer from June 26th during the men fashion shows in Paris! Keep your eyes open!
