Recognized for his eccentric leather cuts, his sophisticated tailoring and his outright fascination for everything that's unconventional, Denis Gagnon is one of the most important Canadian designers in this day and age.
Who's Next Blog: Can you briefly introduce yourself?
Denis Gagnon: I am from Quebec, I’ve been designing my own line of ready-to wear (men and women) for seven years. My collections are very thoroughly thought, with a preference for raw material such as cotton and leather.
Who's Next Blog: How did you start designing clothes? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do?
Denis Gagnon: I’ve always done that – I started out as a suit/fancy dress designer before working for 'prêt à porter'.
Who's Next Blog: How did you move from amateur to professional designer?
Denis Gagnon: The transition was rather natural – when you are really passionate about something, it becomes a challenge and you want to go futher.
Who's Next Blog: What are you sources or inspiration? (Arts, everyday life, other?)
Denis Gagnon: Apart from the fabrics and material I use, everything is an inspiration – especially everyday life.
Who's Next Blog: Do you have a favourite piece and why?
Denis Gagnon: In my case, it’s rather a favorite material – it’s my way of using leather that made me famous in Canada

Denis Gagnon: It all depends what it is used for....It can be a way of loving yourself, being loved, hiding or showing yourself.

Denis Gagnon: I’m working on my next collection.
