>Can you briefly introduce yourself ? Who are you in real life?
Andresgallardo is a new and creative proposal of handcraft contemporary jewelry.
Andrés is from Murcia (south east of Spain) and Marina from Galicia (north west of Spain), they met in the center, Madrid.
Andrés Gallardo studied fashion design in Madrid. While working in few spanish based fashion companies, he began to create one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry for friends. In 2011 as the project expanded Andres teamed up with his  friend Marina Casal, Madrid based graphic and textile designer. They met years ago designing for a spanish brand and since then they have been together.


>How did you come upon the Who's Next Blog and its Young Designer contest?
Our dearest friends Dori and Gonzalo from the brand Gonzalo Cutrina, told us about the support of WNblog to the new designers.


>What made you decide to step into this profession?
Andres have been drawing and designing since he was a child, his favorite play was to do fancy dresses to his cousins mixing clothes of his mother and grandmother. When he had the age to decide what to study, he decided to move to Madrid, were at the time was the only place to do fashion design.
Marina have been always between graphic and fashion design, when she was younger, she was planning to go to the art school when she find out that in Madrid there was a design institute where the design disciplines were crossed and very connected, from them Marina has been in fashion more in the textile and graphic side than in the styling side.
We love to create and design, to give identity to something or someone, to reuse things and turn them into new things with new meanings. We enjoy the whole process, not only designing the pieces but designing the packaging, planning the photoshooting, thinking how to display the pieces at the stores... for us in each step you are creating something.


>What are your sources or inspiration ?
Flora and Fauna: overflowing vegetation and the wild animals hidden into it, the tender look of an elephant and the elegance of a panther, zebra´s skin or a white horse mane…
Leos Carax, Otto Dix, Rousseau… classic music, antiquities, geometry vs nature…
Intuition, handcrafting, improvisation…



>Fashion, what for?
To express yourself, to play with it.


>Which artists would you like to make discover with the readers ?
Barnavy Barford
He is an artist who works ceramics to create a narrative world. He does unique and  ironic collages of ceramic figures. We didn´t know about his work when we began with the first collection of brokenporcelain, someone told us about him, and now we feel him as a closer friend (although we haven´t meet him ever!)



Sargadelos
It is not an artist, it is a traditional chinaware house from the north of Spain that has been creating innovative and very creative china since the early nineteenth century. It is not known outside of Spain, but we think it is one of the best design/decorative spanish houses



>Your favorite addresses in your city?
La Caleta - a small place where you can eat all kind of small fried fish (south spain style)

>Your last concert ?
Rodrigo Leao, a portuguese musician and composer. He was part of the band Madredeus, and in the nineties he began his solo career. We love his portuguese roots, we are very close to portugal as we have been working with portuguese people a lot. They have a rare mix of tradition and modernity that engage us.




>Your last exhibition ?
Yves Saint Laurent in the Mapfre fundation in Madrid, inspiring!
We know almost everything about him, but to see the most representative pieces of his career, a reconstruction of his small study, the Africa collection less than one step far, the amazing jewelry and hats collection... is really impressive! One of the parts of the exhibition that we liked more were the sketches of the collections, he worked for years in the same format in the same way, always a dinA2 grid paper divided by looks in the same way and with the little swatches of fabric attached in the same way... from 1965 to 2002 always the same paper, the same way of doing, we guess the same pencil..
We loved too his comic series of "La Vilaine Lulu"

>The thing more the nutcase whom you did see ?
The Rizoma Festival, an art, music and cinema festival that is curated by two friends. The first edition was celebrated in a small village, the idea was to mix country and urban way of life and people, we invade the country side with crazy films, street orchestras and contemporary installations, the people of the village taught workshops about crochet knitting and two-step dancing, it was the most funny and crazy days we had in time. The last edition was about this filthy world.. the star-guest was John Waters he came to Madrid to play his new monologue and he enjoy the festival with everyone.




>Where would you like to travel ?
Africa


>Social network addict ?
We are updated but we are not addicts!
Andres has Twitter and Facebook, which he uses most of all for give news abut the collections, events and new pieces to keep Brokenporcelain´s fans informed. Marina only has instagram, she prefers pictures than words.


>Describe a successful evening/night?
When without have planned it we coincide with all our friends and the friends of our friends in the same place.


>Friday night out, what’s you favorite drink?
For Andres Ron con Coca cola, cubalibre!
Marina likes fresh beer


>Your news and plans for the future?
We are on the process of designing the new collections of Brokenporcelain and Tribe. We are planning the photoshooting aswell with our friend and photographer Raul Cordoba, photoshooting are always fun!
We would like to introduce the collections in Europe and EEUU for the next year so we are working in stores, fairs and showrooms research.
