We love ca2creative

It's time to discover the 15 winners of the WSNBlog young designer contest. They seduced our professional jury, thanks to their original and creative universe as well as their passion for fashion. We wanted to learn more about them...

This week, meet CA2 Creative !

> How did you come upon the Who's Next Blog and its Young Designer contest?
We had known for some time the fame of the competition, so when we created our line of accessories we signed-up to get some feedback from an audience that is more aware of new proposals.

> What was your reaction when you found out you'd won?
As one says in such cases: “I would never have guessed”. To win at one’s debut is really fantastic, almost moving. We now feel as if we have an aesthetic responsibility towards those who believe in us.

> Can you briefly introduce yourself ?
We are two designers that met in Rome while studying Art and Fashion Design. We then found ourselves working together for a fashion international brand that allowed us to confront each other under an aesthetic profile and succeeding in creating a common vision, without compromising our own individual professionalism. There are currently six hours of time zone separating us, but we have a common dream that is unaffected by the distance.

> How did you start designing clothes? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do ?
Since childhood, clothing and costumes represented the best way and means for both of us to communicate with the outside world; a decorative expression of Art applied to the body that later on we pursued until making a passion into our job.

> What are your sources of inspiration ?
The technique of our work draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese technique of paper carving that, trough the game of fullness and emptiness of laser cut, provokes surprising graphic images in the retina of the observer. The drawings we have elaborated are the result of temporal connections in history of art, which range from the dream-like visions of Hieronymus Bosch to the mirrored images of Peter Max; from the symmetric tattoos of Chinese culture to the kaleidoscopic works of Damien Hirst

> Fashion, what for ?
Fashion seen as a means and expression of art applied to the body and made mobile through it.

> Which artists would you like to make discover with the readers ?
We would like to talk about Gino Sabatini Odoardi, a multifaceted artist, who experimented with different expressive languages; he mainly worked plastic using it as a tool to isolate reality, freezing everyday objects until they became conceptual. The end results are works that feature an extreme cleanliness and a destabilizing aesthetic.

> Your news? Your projects?
Looking to the future, to develop our concept in other fields, ranging from accessories to clothing, remaining faithful to our aesthetics.

> Your favorite adresses in your city ?
Our city is Rome: it alternates between the magnificence of the Pantheon and the severity of the EUR district, the fluid geometry of the Maxxi Museum designed by Zaha Hadid and the animal-like sinuosity of Renzo Piano’s Auditorium. The spots we recommend visiting are the Macro Museum in the district of Testaccio, where one can admire contemporary works of art in an industrial archaeology setting. For clothing we suggest the highly selective boutique “Fate Ignoranti”, a gallery of creative talents in the EUR district; one of our favorite restaurants is “Taverna Urbana” in the stunning neighborhood of Monti; while books should exclusively be purchased at “Fahrenheit 451”, which is specialized in visual arts and is located in the historic Piazza Campo de Fiori square. For everything else and much more one cannot miss out on the flea market of Porta Portese, unique in the world for its capacity to strike people thanks to its colors and because of the unlikely goods one can find for sale.

> The one question you’d like to be asked ?
We are curious to know what our creations transmit to an external person who looks at them for the first time.

> Favorite drink?
White martini with an olive.

> Describe a successful evening/night ?
Starting with an aperitif, preferably at an opening where good artists are on show, where one can admire works of art at first and then the people attending (mainly to satisfy our curiosity and interest towards human beings). Dinner would then be nice and somehow relaxing; we would then move on to a glass of wine, an inexhaustible source of positive thoughts and exchange of energy. It would then be great to continue with a pleasant night at theatre. Clubbing is the place where it is possible to free one’s mind and relax dancing, letting oneself go in a tribal way to music, restoring body and soul: finishing off with an after party would be the icing on the cake. When returning home we would feel tired but happy, with our head and heart full of images, colors, words and details snatched from the day gone by.

> The thing more the nutcase whom you did see ?
Our improbable duo!!!

> Your last concert ?
The Anglo-Italian singer Anna Calvi in Rome

> Your last exhibition ?
“Savage Beauty” , Alexander McQueen  (MET, New York)

> A motto ?
Ad Majora

> One last word ?
C: Good Luck Andy!
A: Good Luck Catia!
