We love killygrind

Killygrind 'We Love' interview, Who's Next Blog young fasion designer contest winner!

 > Can you briefly introduce yourself ?

Killygrind : My name’s Ingrid Jacques, I am 30 and currently live in Paris. I work as a free-lance stylist and illustrator under the pseudo Killygrind.

  > How did you start designing clothes? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do ?

Killygrind : I started creating clothes and accessories out of personal need; I’ve always liked the idea of owning something unique and hate wearing the same clothes/accessories as someone else.
My friends and family encouraged me to develop my creations, which led to a first mini-collection called "Sleepwalk" by Killygrind.
After fashion design studies, I chose to work in that field ten years ago. I now devote all my time to this passion.

 > What are your sources or inspiration ?

Killygrind : Retro fashion from the 50s to the 80s, everyday life, clubbing, rockers, baby dolls, the Japanese Kawai fashion…

 > Fashion, what for ?

Killygrind : To have fun, to indulge, dream and sublimate yourself…

 > Which artists would you like to make discover with the readers ?

Killygrind : I love the comics author Charles Burns, his fascinating and strange stories, as well as his amazing illustrations.

I’m also a huge fan of Junko Mizuno’s illustrations, for her both sordid and naive world.

I love artist Trevor Brown’s very disturbing universe as well as surrealist painter Mark Ryden.

I’d like to tell you about Blossom Dearie, a jazz singer and pianist with a 50s bebop style.

Blossom Dearie - Thou Swell

My anti-gloom cure: listening to Les Parisiennes and Les Ingénues without forgetting Sam Cooke.  In a completely different style, I am also an 80s fan: New order, Ultravox, Chaka Khan...

And as for current bands, I like Cut Copy, Vampire Weekend, Ratatat, Whitey, Messer chups...

Messer Chups - Charade

 > Your news? Your projects ?

Killygrind : A limited edition of silkscreen-printed t-shirts, posters, bags, as well as a mini-collection of accessories, hats and brooches.

 > Your favorite adresses in your city ?

Killygrind : I’m a Belleville-addict, to discover all the Chinese goodies…

 > The one question you’d like to be asked ?

Killygrind : I don’t like questions. I never know what to say about myself…

 > Favorite drink?

Killygrind : Strawberry, apple and orange smoothie

 > Describe a successful evening/night ?

Killygrind : Good music, friends in a good mood, great fun… and booze!

 > The thing more the nutcase whom you did see ?

Killygrind : Fireflies…

 > Your last concert ?

Killygrind : The Cavaliers

The Cavaliers - Summer (live @The Grist Mill)

 > Your last exhibition ?

Killygrind : My special favorite: the Elzo’s exhibition tour Carhartt

 > A motto ?

Killygrind : Peace and Love and don’t fuck with me…

 > One last word ?

Killygrind : With love from Killy
