> Here is our interview:
We're Kim Leemans en Merel Wicker and toghether we have the label LEW. It's an acronym of Leemans En WIcker.
We started the label in 2006 and introduced it with the collection LEWishere. After graduating from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam we kept on working toghether. This collaboration started in the last year of fashiondesign. After doing assigments for other people we decided to make our own work. We thought it was time to make independent work. Herefor we also launched our website www.l-e-w.nl.
At first, designing our first collection, we primarely wanted to express our concepts, sharing our ideas about fashion. The concept grew from the question 'why simple if it can be difficult' : ). We found it interesting to use these 'everyday' and comfortable clothes/silhouettes (sweatshirts -pants etc) and turn it into 'haute couture'. It gives an interesting image of two 'clashing' worlds in fashion: streetwear versus haute couture. Maybe we wanted to give our answer upon the movements we felt going on.
LEWishere, the word says it, is our beginning of our label.
> A word about your inspiration?
Our inspiration?? Always a tricky question.. : ) No, but that can come from everywhere, all kinds of trends from clothing till music, grafic design, but also a nice book we looked into, a film we saw, what you see in the streets with different cultures etc. It can be very broad, but sometimes it's just plain and simple doing what our intuition tells us (not so simple off course and intuition is influenced by the things we see everyday in the streets, magazines etc.So we're back to the beginning) So afterall we can say we use information from the big wave of time we're on at that moment. Sounds a bit '70 : )
> Fashion, what for?
Tja, for the same reason it's nice to eat nice food, see nice people, doing nice things, so also to wear nice clothes. It's all about satisfying your senses....and a bit expressing your personality?? : )

> Nice adresses for going out:
-''Trouw'-gebouw, an old newspaper building what now is used for parties and cool events (think of 'Flying Lotus' how performed there). You also can eat there very well (has been told... which I believe, I smelt it..mmm) (east-Amsterdam, 'Wibautstraat 5')
- 'Nieuwe Anita', very cool, alternative place, bit hippie-esque. You can see schetshes, dance to all kinds of music and drink cheap beer (Frederik Hendrik Plein, West-Amsterdam)
-'Club up': just cool (Near Leidseplein/Rembrandtplein. Amsterdam Central)

> Describe the perfect evening/party:
... Well, a perfect evening is ; have many free drinks with a few (350) nice people at 'Zwarte Lola' with the hotest dj's (mr Wix, Beesmunt, Fnnnn), tear down a few lamps, white paint on the floor which became wet of the spilling drinks which made everyone white to up their knees including the director of Fashionweek (afterwards he asked us where he could sent the bill of the cleaners..oops), be mentioned in a televisionprogramme (rtl boulevard) as a 'cool fashionparty' and go home to sleep zzzzz...to wake up and clean the place, because it's your studio....ach...no problem after such a party...
> Last Concert:
-Peaches and Ladyhawke. Was nice, Petrovsky & Ramone first had a photoshoot with Peaches earlier that day in our studio...pretty cool..rock on Peaches!
> Last exhibition:
-'Lennard Schuurmans' at the 'Kijkkasten', a row of windows displaying his great work. He's an illustrator
> Our Motto:
-Love, peace & happiness.. : )..and we're actually very serious about it....
