Morgane & Salomé

Morgane & Salome 'We Love' interview, Who's Next Blog young fasion designer contest winner!

> Can you briefly introduce yourself?

M & S: We are MORGANE&SALOME, two young fashion designers and friends. We’ve just designed our first collection based on a very unique concept: "Clothing jewels”: textile creations to be worn a body part to sublimate your clothes.

> How did you start designing clothes? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do?

M & S: It’s our full-time job.

S :I created my first dress around the theme "Finery and Reincarnation". I was allowed every possible means of expression, but I chose clothing; I made a unique hat that could be turned into a dress!

M : My first piece of clothing was also a dress, made of paper. I was about six and I’d seen that in a film. I’d found it fascinating to use that material in particular. Paper was one of the few things I could use at the time, so I just did the same… The result was rather inconclusive.

> What are you sources or inspiration?

M & S: Everything! From a paper on the floor to the color of the sky, people on the street, their way of moving and dressing, and of course artists, thinkers, design, music…

> Which artists would you like to make discover with the readers?

M & S: Can we give as many as we want? Talented people we love:

Karl Khalil (Music)
Hannah Lipowsky (Photo)

Phil Stephens (Sculpture)
Joël Riff (Curious, weekly cultural review: http://chronique-curiosite.over-blog.com/)
François Dorval (Music)
Amélie Glenn (Actress)
Anne Horel (Musical performances)
Sexual Earthquake In Kobe (Music)
Maud Heintz (Costumes)
Quentin Brussieux (Painting)
Émilie Pedron (Ceramics)
Lore Macé (Design)
Outlines (Music)
Herman Verhagen (Pottery)

> Your news? Your projects?

M & S: New textile objects for a photo series around the theme Tissus Flingueurs (Killer fabrics) for Côté Paris magazine, a wedding dress, moving our studio to Vincennes, stage costumes for SEIK…

> Your favorite adresses in your city?

M: My place!

S
: Morgane’s place!

> The one question you’d like to be asked?

M: How can you be so great?

S: Could you tell me an Alsatian joke?

> Favorite drink?

M: Champagne

S: Mojito Love

 > Describe a successful evening/night?

M: When you feel good, an evening you remember.

S: Unexpected evenings (ending up in a great party on a boat with palm trees, when you’d planned to stay home!).

> The thing more the nutcase whom you did see?

M: The seabed in Corsica, the first time I went snorkeling, I felt dizzy.

S: A village party close to Narbonne in the south of France, punctuated with huge inflatable hand-made octopuses and sea animals. Incredible, you felt as though the sea had swallowed you up!

> Your last concert?

M: Big concert: Partick Watson at the Cigale (Paris). More confidential: I love my Neighbors and Ed-Äke, at the International (Paris)

S: Sexual Earthquake In Kobe at the International (Paris) and Les Yeux d’La Tête at the Trois Baudets (Paris).

> Your last exhibition?

M: Portraits - Autoportraits by Gilles Porte on the Palais Royal square, I just loved it ! Poires et Pommes (Pears and Apples) by Maria Durieux at the Paris 4th Arrondissement city hall: brilliant!

S: Sang Bleu at the 12 Mail (Paris 2nd Arrondissement) in partnership with ClarkMagazine: tattoos seen as clothes and jewels. A wonderful discovery!

> A motto?

M: Nothing ventured, nothing gained

S: Don’t worry, be happy

> One last word?

M: Thank you!

S: We’ll be back!
