New Chinese fashion designers... // Place // 2008/08/08 at 08:08

To celebrate the Beijing Olympics starting this Friday August the 8th, the 'QIPAI Cup China style costume creation contest' was held in the heart of the Artists’ district, the Dashanzi 798 (see news last week).

Organized by the Federation of Chinese Textile, this exceptional edition of the Beijing Fashion Week sees itself as the "faithful reflection of the Chinese nation’s economic, cultural and industrial development".

As usual, the space design was excessive: as a curtain to the catwalk, a huge Mao jacket. Most of the creations showed a subtle mix between traditional Chinese culture (Mao collars, printed dragons, and rich fabrics) and modern and soft materials. The leitmotiv of this event: China’s ancestral heritage, the know-how and dynamism of the Asian giant.

The three winners are:

..:: For menswear: He Jian.  The jury was convinced by his collection of jeans made of beige and brown fabrics. Precise cuts, an attention for details reminding us of the great Japanese collections for men.

..:: For womenswear: Zhu Xiao Yu. Her white and very sober dresses, cut in supple fabrics were highlighted with headpieces made of wool skeins.

..:: For accessories: Yang Jie for her impressive items: extra-large belts, massive metal shoulder-pads...

The winners of these three categories (men, women, accessories) will be given the opportunity to present their collections in Paris, the City of Fashion during the coming editions of Who's Next and Première Classe fairs, from September 4th to 7th 2008.

Next fashion show: WHO'S NEXT / PREMIERE CLASSE - Paris, porte de Versailles - from September 4th to 7th 2008.
